On Saturday morning we had a tag sale. While Jake dug a bunch of junk out for us to sell and tended to the early morning shoppers, I took a run to Dunkin Donuts for some breakfast. Just before I pulled into our driveway, I saw a hot air balloon almost directly over our house. We live next door to a church and I realized that if the boys and I went behind the church to the parking lot, we’d be able to get a better view of the balloon. Once we were down there, I could hear the wooosh sound of the firing mechanism but I couldn’t see the actual balloon. Then I noticed some red and yellow below tree level in a field behind my house. Just as I was realizing that they were going to land, a pick up truck came bombing into the parking lot and a couple got out. They started running towards the balloon. I grabbed the boys close to me and we got out of the way to watch. I told the boys that they were going to land in the field and the man said “No they’re landing right here!” We got back even further to give them plenty of room. They fired up and over the trees then threw a line down to the people on the ground. There was a bit of confusion and a scary moment when the people on the ground started pulling and they pulled them right into the trees. They fired it up a bit and made a beautiful, smooth landing right in front of us. It was amazing. Once they were safe, we gave them a round of applause and went back to help Jake. Jake hadn’t realized what was going on so he grabbed the camera and the boys and went back down there to get some shots. I manned the tables. The people in the basket called Jake and the boys over. Dylan got to get into the basket and they showed both of them how the balloon works. It was a beautiful, amazing sight.
